KEY OBJECTIVES

ACTIVITIES
6. To encourage and promote local performers by offering the opportunity to perform in concerts and by interacting with other similar centres, where they exist, in Suffolk and East Anglia thereby creating awareness of our Musical Heritage and raising Bury St Edmunds music profile in the community.
The folk club holds Open-mic/Singers nights which allow local performers a vehicle to perform.
7. To encourage and promote folk dance through local dance sides and instruction workshops. This will involve several of the Morris and Molly dance troupes as well as Bury Bal a French dance organisation based in Bury St Edmunds.
Discussions taking place between local Morris dance sides.
Bury Bal (French Folk Dance) actively participate with folk club concerts.
8. To hold workshops with professional folk musicians, involving local schools and colleges music departments. Therefore bringing awareness of our very rich musical heritage.
Information gathered about various professional folk performers who regularly hold work-shops in schools.
9. To offer folk music participation for adults, senior citizens and children, whether they are able-bodied or disabled in a day centre setting possibly including the making of basic folk instruments and/or related artefacts as well as musical sessions.
Discussions regarding a suitable venue on-going.
10. To actively pursue a dialogue
with the local authority to create an annual ‘Day of Music & Dance’ celebration in Bury St Edmunds, where the Milkmaid can provide an operational base for local festivals and events with a folk theme.
Interest shown by prominent members of St Edmundsbury Council, Suffolk County Council, MP’s and MEP’s.
Invitation received to organize a Musical Fun Day on the Mildenhall Estate 16th August 2008.
Have participated in The Festival of Culture held in Bury St Edmunds organised by a partnership between the Borough Council and The Bury Volunteer Service.
11. To actively encourage young performers and give them a vehicle to perform to the public.
Young people and schools have been targeted to take part in a Musical fun day next year.
12. To hold tuition classes in learning to play World musical instruments for people of all standards, abilities and understandings
